The hallways, the elevators, the staircases, the lecture halls, each and every one of the rooms – no matter how big or small, every chair, bench, couch; all of those surfaces, spaces and seats are occupied with bodies
Not every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year
But the bodies come in waves
For their nine, eleven, three or other o’clock lectures
For an appointment with another body,
For a meetup with multiple bodies
These bodies all look different
Sound different
Feel different
Smell different
Taste different
The bodies are all houses to minds and souls
These all have a story, other experiences explaining how they turned out the way that they are now
Other places that they grew up in, and circumstances that they grew up under
Some minds may be wary and confused
Brains that are stressed and anxious
Or relaxed and clear-headed minds
Perhaps souls that feel as if they’re a little lost
Or maybe a lot
Even within the sea of souls that surrounds them
Being lost can be a good thing
If you eventually, sooner or later, make your way back to yourself
Or rather your new self since you may have changed
You might have even started hating your old self
But should we not honour our younger selves?
That little four-year-old you is still inside of you
Create a kind, forgiving inner monologue
Change is good, it is necessary
Without change the world wouldn’t be as it is today
You don’t have to change the body you were born into
Know this: your body is your home
Nurture it, care for it, love it
A body carries one around all-day
It walks, it struts, it struggles, it runs, it steps, it strolls, it strides and rolls from the heels of the feet to the tips of the toes
Left foot, right foot, left, right, left, right, left, right
So that you get from point A to B
Air flowing through a body, delivering oxygen to all its parts
The senses, however many there are in use, obtaining information from the outside world, translating it for one’s inner world
So thank you body, for another day
Bodies bodies bodies
So many of them at Roeterseiland campus
New faces to be seen every day
Or familiar ones to greet
Chat with them about their weekends
Don’t forget your own face
I bet you’re really cute too
